Jobs Initiative funding of Smarter Travel projects

Government funding was made available to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and the National Transport Authority  under the Jobs Initiative (link to go here) to develop infrastructure in support of smarter travel.  The sustainable travel and transport sector was specifically chosen for this funding boost because small projects are relatively labour intensive.

Jobs initiative funding of €5million was used by the NTA to invest in smarter travel infrastructure in the Greater Dublin Area and the regional cities.

Funding of over €10million was granted by the Department  to county councils outside the Greater Dublin Area for the improvement of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and other sustainable transport measures in towns and rural areas.

Works completed include cycle paths and cycle parking, pedestrian routes, improving pedestrian/cycling accessibility to key destinations including town centers, public transport locations and education centers/schools, low-cost traffic management and signage schemes and low-cost safety measures to enhance the attractiveness of walking and cycling.

Detils of the projects funded under the Jobs initiative will be added shortly.
